API Support for Exporting In-Place families

API Support for Exporting In-Place families

It would be great if the API would allow me to export in-place families to separate files. In this way, I can more easily reuse content. Upvote if you're interested in this feature too!

This is a problem with your work flow. If a model is going to be used more than once, then don't model it in place. Create it as a family.

I'm not building the application only for myself. Because of this, I don't want to make assumptions about how users are managing their families.

You can copy model-in-place elements to families already, see Help - https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Convert-...

Thanks but I'm specifically asking for API support.

Why would you build support to encourage people to mismanage their Revit workflows? Spend that time educating these folks how to properly build families.

I really don't want to make judgments on how people use Revit, I just want to support users in as many ways as possible. I'm not an educator, I just want to aid users with automation.

Right, aiding them in figuring out how to build proper families does that.

By exporting in-place families to their own files, and reusing them in new projects, I could actually help users avoid using in-place families in new files.
