Allow railings to be visible in a Reflected Ceiling Plan

Allow railings to be visible in a Reflected Ceiling Plan

Please Allow railings to be visible in a Reflected Ceiling Plan.  Most other (but not all) aspects of stair and railing visibility have been removed from system control, so that we pretty much now use Category/subcategory visibility control, which is so much better, as it lets us make the decision instead of having to remember which rules and exceptions are built into the system.

Incidentally, this would allow us to (Ab)use railings for other purposes such as canopies

Like the people here said, WE should be the one who decides what shows up on the views, not Revit. Revit should give us more control on what we want to see. It just doesn't make sense to completely vanish something. If you want to set the railings not to show by default that's ok, but at least give us a option to override that when we need, to not have to rely on "workarounds"

Also upvoting this idea. Can see more commentary on the subject from this idea post:

Madness that we can't see railings in RCPs, please fix it.

Looks like Revit 2024 still lacks the ability to show an entire category (railings) in RCP views. Surprised there's not more votes on this idea, hoping this will bump it back up the page.

There's a similar idea here:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/show-railings-and-more-on-rcp/idi-p/10244241

But would love to give it some more visibility (I don't think my recent post bumped it back onto the front page)

Seems insane to me that an entire category isn't visible in ceiling plans.

This is still killing us. Not showing an entire category of the model in the RCP, even though it's clearly within the view range, is bonkers.

Another year, another release that still lacks the ability to show an entire category of modelled elements in RCP views 😞

Bump in hope that this will make it onto the Revit 2027 roadmap

I cannot believe I need to create a post about this in 2025. It seems for at least 8 years this problem has not been solved. In some cases it is necessary to be able to see Railings in RCP's.

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones, please merge this idea into https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/allow-railings-to-be-visible-in-a-reflected-ceiling-plan/....  While you're at it, please merge this one into that as well: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/show-railings-and-more-on-rcp/idi-p/10244241.

@bart.koevoet, please remember to search for your idea before posting a new idea.  I found both of these ideas on the first page by searching "railing RCP".

@Ric_Weber That's not the issue. I found it just fine. It's just that it is a post from 8 years ago and nothing happened...

Even the plan views don't actually show the correct railings. I suspect it's another item on the list of things that can't be touched without the whole system falling apart/no one at AD even knows what to do about it... Stair modelling has been on "the radar" of the roadmap for years and still nothing (granted it's a little more complex than the average system family, but it's a pretty fundamental part of the software that's long been unforgivably poor), can only hope when/if they ever address stairs that railings are fixed in the overhaul as well...

Either way, I'll no doubt be back when Revit 2027 is released to make the same complaint.
