Addition of a Roof floor plan

Addition of a Roof floor plan

Problem:

I am a mechanical engineer and I use Revit MEP for HVAC system design. We often have equipment on the roof such as condensers or dx coils and to show them we make a roof plan. However, most roofs are pitched and because of this the view range of the roof plan has to extend from the top of the roof to the bottom edge of the roof in order to show all of our equipment on the roof. This results in items (like walls, piping, electric, mechanical equipment, etc...) underneath the roof being shown.  What we currently have to do is drop the view range so we can see all of our rooftop equipment and then hide anything that we don't want to see which can be view time consuming. This issue happens in all disciplines and not just mechanical as well.

Solution:

Some kind of a floor plan or a setting that doesn't look below the roof. The view range can be built such that when the bottom of the view range touches a roof element it does not go any farther. The view can still be set up like a normal plan view meaning it has an associated level and view range.

This would be useful for structural as well.  It is impossible to dimension roof beams correctly in a normal plan view.   I have made section views in the past but it isn't the best.
