Add Undo/Redo for viewport navigation

Add Undo/Redo for viewport navigation

Hello!

There should be a clean and consistent way to Undo/Redo all viewport navigation. Most 3D application support this. Revit should, too.

There could be the new commands 'Undo View' and 'Redo View' (decoupled from the regular undo stack of course), to:

- undo/redo viewport zooming

- undo/redo viewport panning

- undo/redo viewport orbiting (rotating)

They should work in all views - 2D, 3D, layouts, ... (even schedules, since they support zooming now).

As of now, there's only the meager command, 'Undo View Orientation Changes', to undo the last viewport orbiting in 3D views.

And no, a workaround like using 'Save Current View as Home' and 'Go Home' doesn't count...

Thanks!

Best regards

Wanted to add: it is quite irritating that viewport navigation Undo/Redo is included in the regular Undo/Redo! These are different things!

Such a tool does exist. It's called the Rewind tool, but it's hard to find.

I submitted an Idea a while ago, but it hasn't gotten much traction

Rewind... right! Some years ago I stumbled over it, in 3ds Max I think, then forgot it. Never liked this SteeringWheel - as an experimental  user interface gadget, it's a failure I think.

And shame that Rewind not even has a keyboard shortcut. That would be low hanging fruit, so at least that could be added.

But actually, I'd still prefer these Undo/RedoView commands, because often I want the EXACT same view back, which is hard to achieve by scrubbing through this row of images that Rewind displays.

Thanks!

Ranting energy here...

Not a Revit day goes by where I don't shake my head over the fact that scene undo and view navigation undo are combined in Revit!

Autodesk guys, you are doing us no favor with that!

Often I do a modelling step, zoom back, revise, and press undo. It zooms/pans back in then, which is unwanted, because often I'd like to navigate to another place and continue there.

Reminds me of AutoCAD, where view navigation counts like "normal" scene editing, which always gets in the way.

In other applications, this is separate (Rhino, 3ds Max, ArchiCAD, Cinema4D...), like it should be.

Btw, same goes for selections. I know the command "Select Previous", but it would be better if selection wasn't dropped so often.

The best system would be to have an Undo/Redo-stack for

- scene manipulation

- viewport navigation

- selection

Could we have at least a preference checkbox like "Combine scene and view Undo", please?

Thanks!
