Ability to export linked models to IFC model

Ability to export linked models to IFC model

I have made some tests until Revit 2017.2, and it is not possible to include links when I export a file to IFC format.

I need this functionalty, as I can do in NWC and DWFx formats.

I need this functionality too! I want to be able to link an IFC-model to my Revit model, place the IFC in a different position than it originally had, and then export the Revit-file and the linked file to a new combined IFC-file. I work in a construction company and we get for instance roof trusses that an external consultant created in a calculating software that can export to IFC, but can't specify any coordinates for the model. So I want to place them in the right position and then export my model with this file included. In a current project I have 50-60 different types of roof trusses in various shapes and positions, and I have no interest in modelling these trusses when my consultant already have done that work.

We use a lot of linked files when we do residential and hotel projects. Each link is one apartment and we copy the links to different locations which built up the residential building. It is very annoying when we can’t do an ifc-export for the whole building to other consultants.

AND, we do not want to go via Navis and third part plug-ins. Please fix!

Agree with that, should be possible to export combined IFC-file from Revit project what includes multiple Revit- links. I, and my colleagues and my clients would like to use Revit- links for eg. when doing residential building projects. But at the moment it doesn't make any sense, because every linked project exporting as separate IFC. Construction companies doesn't accept that, so solution how we do at the moment, we using groups. Linked Revit- projects would give more options instead groups and we have figured out that it also could make work sharing also little bit more clear and easier.

So please give this option to export as combined IFC.

We have a workflow at the moment that force us to export a nwc-file from Revit which includes all links. Further on, In Naviswork we use the third part plug-in Codemill IFC Exporter to export the model to IFC-format.

This feature is already included in the IFC export interface, please download and install the latest version of it to get it. It is available from Revit 2016, the interface is a little bit different in 2016!

@fabiosato That did not work for me.

@fabiosato  Does the 'new' option to export linked files work for anyone in this forum? I've tried several times without success. If this does actually work, is there a step-by-step guide as to how to achieve this?

Congrats! We think this is a great idea, so we've decided to add it to our roadmap. Thanks for the suggestion!

Santa came early this year!
Well done.

Hello All - For reference the implementation of this is in Revit 2024, and located under the "Additional Content" tab in the IFC Export dialog. Inside of that tab, you can access the "Linked Files" options to choose to export linked files as separate files (pre-2024 behavior) or as a single IFCProject or IFCSite.

I contributed a class to support that, and detailed how it can be done over here
