3D orbit around the mouse by default

3D orbit around the mouse by default

The orbit center should default to the mouse location. Once I hold shift and middle mouse click, wherever I clicked with the middle mouse should be my center for the orbit.

It would be great if this was an option in the Revit.ini. Either have the option for center on the mouse, or use the current option for center on an object/overall model.

There is no need to discuss, if every others 3d softwares (and video games) use the mouse as the pivot point, there must a good reason. Because it's f****ing easy and natural!!

What's the point to orbit around a point miles aways from the objet you are working on?????

Serioulsy!

Autodesk, i hate you, every thing is buggy in your revit software, use the money we give you to enhance it, not to just make profits!

2022, still not fixed...

As the author specified, others 3d softwares orbit around the cursor.

And you can also add 3d videogames (fps view) are using this method for decades... If they use it for  games, that's because it's the most efficiency way to navigate in 3 dimensions.

Don't re-invent the wheel please... you're making it badly.

Revit 2023 and this is definitely still an issue. Simple camera controls that still confuse every new person I introduce to Revit. Ironically, in Revits own "Shared Views" tool, once exported and viewed in a browser the pivot is based on mouse position, as well as last selected item.

For me, on large projects, if your last selected item is now far off-screen after panning away, the sudden pivot around a point far off-screen is nausea inducing.

Does a new Revit idea need to be created for AutoDesk to count the votes again?

@pieter or @casquatch what do you think?

If the Idea hasn't been "archived" then it's still in the running. Adding a new one wouldn't change much, only split votes. This one is only about 5 years old, so...it's pretty fresh in the eyes of Autodesk and if it's worth their time to implement 😉  I still think the Ideas forum is somewhat of a joke. Really, it's just a beta test forum where we all report issues, then they decide which is worth looking into. The votes don't really matter 🙂

Many 3D modeling programs have this and many people are used to this. This should be an option in a dialog. We don't want to have to use the shift button with it.

Lets make it: Give us options for how to control Revit in 3D views.

I started with AutoCAD and then moved onto Revit. Please don't change the default way Revit works. This will be incredibly disruptive to any existing users of Revit.

This comes up so often... Pretty sure you'll find a dozen ideas exactly like this if you look.

If this is something you HAVE to have, get a programmable mouse, and program the mouse wheel to be mouse wheel + shift.
