3d Grids for 3d views

3d Grids for 3d views

I have found that making 3d grids out of extrusions and model text is extremely helpful when navigating 3d models during coordination or reviewing models in any 3d space.  Its easy to make in Revit but not user friendly or great. If this was automatically generated i am sure the people would rejoice!

If grids created in 2d views could automatically be generated and displayed in 3d space (perhaps allow the z elevation to be controlled as a host or work plane?) it would be amazing.  The current option for grids into of navisworks is not very helpful or clear as the linework depends on the perspective that you're viewing the model.

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones Why do the grid names hide when looked at in perspective views?

@Disappointed Annotations do not show in a perspective view.

@mariopozzo Do you also consider this 'implemented' - as your screenshots did show perspective views from Navisworks? Just curious.

@Disappointed not really... Though the implementation is better than nothing its not really what the ask was to your point. I was hoping for more of an object in space rather than a selectable grid plane. But hey...  Count my blessings about getting something implemented 7 years later... lol

@Disappointed  @mariopozzo @kimberly_fuhrman-jones I've been asking for 3D node-based grids every time I get on a phonecall with the Autodesk team.  During my last group call I was shooshed and told they were only looking for feedback from structural engineers (I am an architect).  This was over a year ago and was the reason I stopped giving feedback to Autodesk completely.  I was an Inside The Factory attendee with you Michael and was super enthusiastic about the future, but realized I was interested in big improvements while they were more focused on incremental change.  But it's never to late to add True 3D Grids!!
