3D Drafting View

3D Drafting View

A 3D drafting view style area would be great to create typical 3d details that you want to keep away from the main model. For example, multiple options of a specific connection or detail. I currently have to produce typical details to use in bid presentations that don't relate to a main model but the only way to do them currently is to model them away from the main model and have them on a workset that is hidden by default.

Use a future phase for model elements, by default they won't ever show up, unless you want them to. This is also good for creating live legend views of elements like doors, windows and walls.

I agree, using worksets for this is a very ugly hack. Please be sure to let us know your better solution should you ever stumble upon it.

I want this even though assemblies exist now. This is why.

My company uses standard embeds for tilt-up concrete, and so we have standard details of them that we use for every project. We just use drafting views so we can copy them into each project. It would be really nice to be able to copy a 3D view into our projects as well but you can't do that as far as I've been able to figure out.

came here to add this same request for autodesk to incorporate.  Having 3d axo details views would be a great asset to bring over from project to project.  Being able to model the components allows easy manipulation for similar conditions

It would be wonderful if the ability to create 3 dimensional drafting views could be added to Revit that would allow detailing remotely from the normal model and allow the ability to transfer to other projects.

Good idea. Say goodbye to useless clutter of unused elements and study models.

Perhaps you should also be able to link the 3D drafting view back into the project as a group, you can always ungroup the elements later.

Thank you, @TerryRichardson ...do you have any examples showing how this would be useful to you? I'm curious, because when I think of a drafting view, I picture being able to "draw" in 2D or 3D...I just have to make sure my angles are set correctly. Can you explain further what you envision?

@TerryRichardson  This was posted just an hour before yours...do you think they are similar enough to combine?

Good morning

The term drafting view may not be the correct term but I am hoping for a functionality that would be the similar. I would love to see a tool that would allow you to draw in 3d using portions of the elements already available to you through Revit such as walls, windows, doors, roofs, massing etc to create 3d details that are not tied to the 3d model. One that could be rotated and locked. Similar to a 2d drafting view this could then be imported into other models for use as standard details.. Such as a 3D cut through a window assembly to better show proper flashing techniques, components of structures to better show complex connections etc. The ability to use parts and show exploded or stretched details would be a great asset.

Another option to start these details would be to create a section box from the 3d view and create a "copy" of the 3d section.. This could then be placed in the 3d drafting view.

Hi Kimberly

I believe this is a different topic. More on the functionality of the conceptual mass feature. Which I agree with the comments. Its not very intuitive and the work planes are very restrictive.

@TerryRichardson  Thank you for the additional details! This will hopefully help the product teams understand the functionality you are looking for.

It would be great to have tools available to assist in the creation of 2d isometric details / drafting views, separate from details that reference the model (think reusable standard details).  Tools similar to AutoCAD's ISODRAFT and isocircles within a drafting view would be indispensable for this feature.

Thank you!
