This operation could not be completed - ERROR : Cannot connect to central model

Hey Revit Peeps,

We recently faced a single user error while opening cloud workshared model with other users not having any issues in opening it.
But one user had the following dialogue box appear while trying to open the model - TWICE:

1.png

On checking the Journal files the following block of text was different:

'status: ERROR : Cannot connect to central model
' 0:< ::146:: Delta VM: Avail 134173243 MB, Used -29 -> 4514 MB; RAM: Avail +8 -> 44133 MB, Used -9 -> 4684 MB
' 0:< GUI Resource Usage GDI: Avail 9707, Used 293, User: Used 240
'C 29-Jul-2024 08:38:45.819; 0:< openDocumentFileForUI: Unknown exception
'C 29-Jul-2024 08:38:45.819; 0:< Unhandled exception - exception: Autodesk.Revit.Exceptions.FileAccessException, msg: Unexpected structured EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION happened during open documents..

I have not come across this before.
There are a few Autodesk forum posts that suggest solutions or possible reasons but nothing too convincing:

  1. It's about a a linked model being deleted on the cloud.
"This operation could not be completed. Please try again" when opening a cloud model in Revit
  2. This is more common that we see, can be low disk space, model needs to be audited, clear users cache and some others.
"This operation could not be completed." when opening cloud model in Revit

We did fix this incident by clearing the CollaborationCache for the user - BUT WHY DID THIS HAPPEN???

Any explanations for the error or we just accept it with the mindset:
IF IT AINT "COMPLETELY" BROKEN, WHY BOTHER!!

I can imagine that there could be a number of possible reasons including some outside of the program but they would be guesses.

It's considered good practice to clear the collaboration cache on a periodic basis so, yeah, we don't have much choice other than accept it.

got the issue today. Yesterday, it worked, but today no connection with cloud worksharing from revit 2024. But still ok with other version of revit.

Someone has this issue?
