SHOP DRAWINGS in a separate file while original file having linked in Revit

HI,

For shop drawings, I created a separate file and linked the original files. It worked great and reduced my file size dramatically. Now the problem is that whenever I update the original file the dimension in the shop drawing removes and I have to put it again. Will anybody please give me a solution for that because I have almost 300 drawings created already in the separate file.

For all of this, I used Revit.

Hi @Anonymous,

Dimensions remember the referenced element's id and the geometry component inside that element. If the referenced element is deleted, the dimension currently is not able to find a replacement reference. For the linked case, if the referred element was deleted in the linked file, when the file is reloaded to your shop drawing file, the dimensions that used to refer to the deleted element will also be removed. If possible, avoid deleting elements in the linked file when you want to modify the model.

Please let me know if this answers your question.

Yeah for this you are right, But the scenario is different here. Let me
elaborate to you.
We do not delete anything from the original file and for this everything is
working fine. But we need to submit both files (original + Shope drawing)
to the server. The client will download the files to there local server
and then he opens the Shop's drawings file and for this, he will need to
use reload from and give the path. After doing so, The dimension will not
work and all the dimension deleted except those who put from the reference
grids. I need a solution for this please! The original file is not altered
in any expect so why the links were broken?

Use eTransmit addin to send the files so that they don't have to run Reload from.

But it is not available for Revit 2015. Where could I find since it has not any appearance in exchange apps for 2015 version? If not, What will be the alternative solution for that?

and thanks for your reply and concern regarding this issue.

I  didn't find it where you mentioned it. Even I don't have product enhancement tab there in my account. Could you please tell me other location or any other alternative method to solve this issue?
