Revit 2018 convert to Revit 2016

I am using revit 2018 for MEP.  The architects base model is in Revit 2016.  Should there be something I should be doing to interface with the model?

Revit is not backward compatible.  You could link in their model and work successfully, but the architect won't be able to use your file.

All team members need to be on the same version, and ideally the same build of Revit for collaborating.
