Re: Case of the missing linked files

I have uploaded my parent file and my linked files into the same folder.  In my parent file, the linked files are relative and attached.  On my computer, the linked files appear (using desktop Revit) but online, in my parent file I can't see the linked files.  Most of the instructions you have shared don't seem to be options for me in a360.  When I upload a file, there are no options other than to upload the file.

Additionally, when I joined a360, I was expecting to be able to work online on my projects as if I were working on my desktop.  That clearly is not the case.  Is there an option to do this?  a360 seems like a nice place to store files, but true collaboration would allow everyone to work on the model in the cloud.

thanks

bob

Hi Robert,

  • What I think you might be looking for here is the Collaboration for Revit Product (HERE) if you want true work-sharing, where you and your colleagues each have Revit, and want to work on the same model at the same time.
  • As well i'll highlight the C4R Forum linked (HERE) just in case you have further questions for that team.

If this is not the case, please let me know.

Regarding A360:

  • A360 is a collaboration product as well that can be used as a standalone product, however, it doesn't include the C4R functionality i describe above.
  • A360 allows one to (as you've likely seen) upload and share that content with others to then be downloaded and edited, and then re-uploaded.
  • A360 also allows version control, commenting, viewing, measure, live review, markup etc. so many other functions as well, however, if your main issue is the live work-sharing, then C4R is the product you'll want to look at.
  • FYI, the C4R subscription includes A360, so you're not having to pay for both separately

  • The one issue that you described where you're only seeing the option to upload a File makes me wonder if you've actually uploaded your Revit Model(s) using the Assembly Upload instructions into A360, OR, if you were possibly in your A360 Drive when you tried to upload your model(s).

If you were in your Drive, that would explain the issue where you're seeing only the parent vs the children as well.

  • A360 Drive does NOT allow you to upload anything but a single file or a folder.
  • A360 will show you the Assembly option when you select the Upload button, so that have been your issue here.

The below screenshot shows the App Switcher icon which allows  you to flip back and forth from A360 to Drive, as well i'll post the upload steps again for others that might see this post

  • Put all files in same folder (parent and children)
  • Check link paths in parent file so they correctly reference the children now that they've moved into the same folder
  • Select Assembly upload option, choose parent file, then upload button.
  • If using AutoCAD files with ref files, use eTransmit to package everything up first which will simplify steps 1 and 2 for you. Or if using Inventor, use Pack and Go function.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

As well i'll move this over into the Revit Collaboration Forum so that team can see your request there right away.

Thanks,
