Load outsourced ITM files to Revit

I'm having trouble loading outsourced ITM files to Revit. The model I'm working in has been built with Revit MEP imperial content. I need to load in a more specific configuration of outsourced fabrication content "ITM files" into said model and reconfigure some of the already built model with this more specific content. I'm at a loss here and any info will be greatly appreciated.

ITMs are not native Revit format.

Don't you need to load the database from Fabrication CAD MEP?

Yep done that, if I open a NEW model my fittings show up. If I open the model I need to work on that has already been built with the normal imperial MEP fittings, my fittings are a no show?
