I have a couple general questions for you.

1. Is Revit 2016 backwards compatible with previous versions of Revit?  (Can 2016 work on a 2014 project?)

2. Does subscription service allow access to previously released versions if not backwards compatible.

3. We would like to do basic 3d modeling and are unsure if the full revit suite or the lt might be a more viable option.

I would like to apologise in advance if these have already been asked.  I briefly browsed the questions already asked but did not see the answers I was looking for.

Revit 2016 is capable of opening older Revit models, but when doing so these models will be upgraded to be fully compatible with Revit 2016.  Upon saving the model after the upgrade it will now be a Revit 2016 file and no longer require any upgrades.

Hi,

Revit is not backward compatible & subscription doesn't give you access to previous version. Revit LT has most of the 3D capabilities as Revit, but I think massing isn't included, for example.

If that is the case, will a 2014 version of Revit be able to open the new 2016 file?  I would imagine not (similar to how AutoCAD operates).

With that in mind does the subscription service allow use of previous versions so this would not become an issue and if a project was created and still being worked on in an older version, we could still work on said project without converting to the newer file structure?

Yes you can open Revit 2014 file in Revit 2016, but vice versa is not true.

2. Does subscription service allow access to previously released versions if not backwards compatible.

Subscription allows you to download previous five version currently you can download upto Revit2012.

3. We would like to do basic 3d modeling and are unsure if the full revit suite or the lt might be a more viable option.

Revit is very powerfull tools with easy user interface to learn quickly.

Thank you again for all your help.  One last question.  Can Revit 2016 save files as an older file type like you can in AutoCAD?

No you cannot save to older versions of Revit from current version.

Mean you cannot save in Revit 2015/2014/2013/2012 from Revit 2016.
