Following an unxpected shut-down, Revit 2023 crashes while trying to open any cloud model

Hi all and a happy new year,

After my PC was shut down earlier today due to a sudden power failure while some cloud models were open, I have since been unable to open any model from Autodesk Cloud. They just cause Revit to crash withing 3-4 seconds without any error message or warning. It is the same when trying to open as "Editable" or when trying to enter the "Specific" option in the documents menu.

I am also unable to install the latest Revit 2023_1_6 update - I get an "error 1603" message soon after the installation starts. I have downloaded and installed the latest License Manager - still the same error.

I would appreciate any ideas before I am forced to try and reinstall Revit alltoghther...

Thanks,

Danny

Delete your local files and try opening. I suspect a corrupt file problem rather than programmatic.

Hi @RSomppi,

Thank you for your suggestion. I tried this at first and it did not work, like a number of other things I had attempted.

It was not a corrupt file since all my cloud files - from different projects - stopped working all at once, and were causing Revit to crash. Cleaning various caches etc. also did not work. In addition, I also could not install a Revit update, or even Revit itself (which tried to install this update as part of the new installation).

In the end, what solved the issue was uninstalling Revit altoghether and re-installing it under a different Windows user. Nothing short of this seemed to work. I guess the software "insisted" on accessing some old system files which prevented it from functioning.

Happy new year!

It could be because the Windows user profile is corrupt. Did you have a chance to run Revit and open cloud files before you reinstalled Revit?

Sometimes it happens; the solution is to delete the old Windows user and recreate a new one.

Had a similar issue to this in Revit 2026 recently, although it did not have to do with cloud models specifically.  It happened any time I selected an option that opened any dialog box.  Creating a new Windows user account worked, but was kind of a nuclear option.  There were 2 possible options that might have solved it that I didn't try, which might be worth it before going the route of a new Windows user profile.  There's a detailed description of it, along with some other troubleshooting steps, under this forum post:
