Communicator does not give chat notifications

We just started using Collaboration for Revit.  According to the article below we are to have red badge notifications for when chats are sent through the Communicator.  This is not happening on anyone's account.  Is there any way to remedy this without a reinstall?

have you tried closing and re-opening Communicator to see if it resets it?  Or just signing out and back in again?  It it just not showing chat updates or are there other areas that are not refreshing as well?

thanks,

When we close and reopen the Communicator it updates the sync timelines and shows the red badges for messages "missed" however when we are using the Communicator live we get no updates.  It is not working in realtime.

Hi,

Thank you for taking your time to contact us,

Have you tried simply running a repair on the install?

Repair did not change anything for Communicator...but it did reset our family paths.  Ugh.

Ah, did you run a repair of Revit?

I did mean running a repair on Worksharing Monitor - I apologize for any confusion if that's what happened.

for what it's worth, we've been using C4R since April 2016 on a project and chat notifications have NEVER worked for us. This through several uninstalls and reinstalls (for other reasons) and upgrading from R2015 to R2016 C4R. We gave up on chat long ago and have gone back to the archaic email communication 🙂

One thing to validate is that your client machine has exceptions for the following domains specific to Collaboration for Revit:

*.skyscraper.autodesk.com

*.notifications.api.autodesk.com

*.pubsub.pubnub.com

pubsub.pubnub.com is specifically used for the Communicator so if that's getting blocked for some reason that would make it not work.  A firewall may block it without it expressly being on an exceptions list.

You way want to also work with your IT department to run something like Fiddler to see what your web traffic looks like and see if there are any errors in communications.

There is a log file for Communicator found at C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Communicator that you can also look into to see if there were any errors.  If so, can you please post for us to take a look at?

I've also noticed that sometimes if you switch from one tab to another it forces the chat to be recognized, which isn't ideal, but may be helpful in the short run until we can do deeper analysis.
