Wrapping at the Insert: Single layer wall

Hi all,

is it possible to wrap at the insert a single layer wall?

I model exterior finish as single layer for better scheduling/Visualization.

Any idea?

If you already model the finish as a thin wall then just model the wrap using the same thin wall type.

Hi

I was afraid so. Unfortunately big job for many windows.

Any workaround?

Add the wrapping as a sweep which is part of the Window Family and Join Geometry in the model

  • You can also nest it into the the window as a shared family if you wish to schedule and quantify separately

Other Alternatives (the previous remains least work to be done):

  • Model the Wrapping as a family of its own
  • Model them using horizontal and vertical Wall: Sweeps

Is this a compound wall now?  The wrap extent is defined by a Ref plane with the box Wall Closure ticked in the door/window family.

Best parametrical Approach:

Model it within window family

If you create wrap in the family, create it as shared architectural column family and nested in the door or window  family, then the wrap will join with the wall in the project automatically, with proper lineweight.

It can be practical but not necessarily the best approach.

If you are using a compound multi layer wall, the wall wraps might be of an advantage when in comes to quantification....in such case you do not need the wraps built into the window.

  • Instead of an Opening Cut, use 2x Voids to cut the host from both sides (interior/Exterior)
  • Give the exterior void  an offset that allows the wrap to fold onto the window frame

See image below (from another post on the same subject just don't remember which exactly)
