Hi,
I am a student trying to set up a Revit model that I and my course mates can all work on from different wifi networks. Is this even possible over multiple networks without access to BIM360. Thanks
Sam
It is possible, i have done it, but i don't recommend it, too many issues with latency and speeds and dropping out. it is a not worth the hassle....
Just use BIM360 ![]()

yes if you click on it it says it is coming soon, but it is has said that for over a year now.

BIM 360 is not available for educational license but it might be very soon this year (figures crossed)
For a student/university project, you can use Dropbox or similar service for worksharing a project you should be able to set it up for a small group. That would be similar to a file server environment (more or less), It is not seamless lol but it will work.
Edit:
Below is a link to Jeffrey Pinheiro's blog (aka TheRevitKid) explaining briefly how to set it up

Some do not recommend it and below is a link on what others have experienced … but I think such issue may or may not apply depending on the size of the data and the users.

Please, please, please DO NOT use Drop Box for worksharing/worksets. Dropbox synchronization does not happen fast enough to prevent users from borrowing elements at the same time. The reason BIM360 exists (and Revit Server) is that the services understand what is happening with borrowing elements as well as a part of file replication/sharing. If your school expects you to use collaboration with Revit then they need to set things up so you can do so safely.
It is not a matter of IF, it is a matter of WHEN you won't be able to sync and I'm betting it will happen right before your deadline for getting your assignment turned in. If you do it and don't get burned it's not because you're special...you were lucky and next time you'll get burned.

@SteveKStaffordunfortunately BIM360 is not yet available for students and for many a subscription is not an option. They are using it here regularly...as stated not flawless and they have to live with backups and what the uni provides or doesn't provide...we go through this every year and every semester.

It's Russian Roulette...no thanks. I'd tell students they need to work in the lab on a server shared filed. Revit users with the least experience on the planet trying to use a file sharing system not designed for Revit is the worst of the worst combinations I can conjure up. Even one instance of starting over because of sync issues is too many.

Wow, just wow.
Thanks for your response. I will just have to use a series of linked models from the looks of things.
@Anonymous
Instead of BIM 360 you can maybe use A360 which is available for students under educational license....if you are not looking for clash detection, real time model aggregation and team meetings ...etc maybe A360 is sufficient
