Windows Family - Unable to place / Unable to insert

Hi,

I have a window family "Win2" (it appears in the project explorer as a window) but I am unable to drag it to the model to insert in a wall and also unable to place it in a legend view.

When I run the "Window" command from the main Architecture ribbon I am told there a no windows in the project.

Any ideas on what the issue might be?

I have attached the Revit 2018 file containing the family.

Note: I can open the family in the family editor and all seems fine.

Note: I have tried audits and compress to resolve the issue

I have a number of these manufacturer supplied families that all have the same problem.

One point of note is that whilst you cannot drag the family into a legend view you can drag another window to the legend and then change the window to the Curtain wall window. Something that may get people around the limitation of curtain wall doors and windows in legends.

You are right , you can not drag the curtain wall windows and doors into a Legend, but I use a workaround.

  • I use to create an Assembly containing each instances of the curtain wall window/doors and then Create Assembly Views ( Plan and Elevation Front and possible a 3d view). Finally I make a sheet on which I place the Legends and the Assembly views.
  • When I want to place on "a legend" a Curtain Wall as a whole ( take in consideration that every Curtain wall in my drawing is an instance) I usually make a local section to see the elevation and I use then Temporary Hide/Isolate > Isolate > Apply Hide/Isolate to View and finally after annotations I load the view into a legend sheet. The same for the plan view...
