Window

Hello!

I have a miss-understanding about the thicknesses presented in Analytical Construction in Revit window family.

In the red box below, you can see that it is written double glazing - 1/8 thickness- color,

1. Is this thickness, the combined thickness of both panes? or just for each pane?

2. what if our project's window has some air gap that we would like to model as well?

3. While I'm using Revit 2018 Metric, as you can see dimensions in mm in the purple box, the windows' Analytical Construction are still delivered in inches? Why? should I load other families?

Each pane

It looks as though you are using a manufacturer family - that will be taken care of there. And even if you are using custom families, you don't want to go into that much detail. Leave that information for spec.

That is because the manufacturer is working  in inches. Don't worry about it.

Thank you very much @Sahay_R !

But when the window is double glazing, it means that there is a filler and filling gap between two panes. How should I know about the width of the gap and it's filling material in these built in analyical construction family? (I'm preparing my model for energy analysis by the way)

And one other question, if I change the thermal properties of the material glass under "Material and Finishes", does it affect the thermal properties of the analytical construction window I chose previously?

You don't. This is information that is set up by the manufacturer. Geometry in the model does not drive energy analysis - parameters do. For the sake of the health of the model, there is only so much information that you want to add.

And one other question, if I change the thermal properties of the material glass under "Material and Finishes", does it affect the thermal properties of the analytical construction window I chose previously?

The thermal properties that matter are driven by the selection of glazing type selected under analytical properties.

Follow Up Question

Why we have Glass in Material and Finishes, and then again, some windows in Analytical construction?

Because when we change the Glass thermal properties, the thermal properties of the chosen window type in analytical construction is not changed?!

The Material is the body. The Thermal Properties are the brain.  You can have lots of plastic surgery but your brain and intelligence remains the same.

Look at it that way.

thanks @Sahay_R!

But I can't reflect this in my thesis 😄

I can see why it is confusing. Do this.

Click on the Window in your model. Click on Edit Family.

In the family editor, click on the Family Types button to bring up the parameters

Click on Glass. This will  bring up the Material Editor. In the Material Editor, click on the Thermal tab. Change the values to 0. Even switch out glass for something else. See what happens to the Analytical values.
