Window Transparency

I just switched to Revit 2021.1 and the window (glass) in elevation views is transparent when realistic graphic display is turned on. In Revit 2020 it wasn't like that. How do I get the windows not to be transparent in elevation views?

Edit the material (asset)? Probably has some glass asset to it controlling the transparency/reflectivity etc.

Open Family and select the Window Opening and check these statuses on the Options Bar.

Also, Glass is not Transparent in Elevation. You need to turn the Category of the Glass Geometry OFF under VGO.

If you are talking about a view set to realistic view, it is because there's a change with rvt 20 to 21 with the before mentioned transparency checkbox for the opening cut in your window family.

I'm using a Wall Based family where voids make openings in my wall. In this family I use a Workplane based Window family with the glass material. I can't found the transparancy checkbox in both families. Autodesk has changed the transparancy in elevations when using Realistic View in Revit 2021.

The Appearance Asset has no Transparency?  What Asset are you using?  Post a screenshot the Appearance Asset settings.

Also, what do your Graphic Display settings look like?

Post your file.

I'm using a glass-based asset. Because in 3D views with a Realistic look I want the glass transparent.

Could be any number of reasons. Be easier to troubleshoot if you could just post the file.

Are you Phasing Construction? If so, is the View's Phase Filter set to "Show Complete"?

Use an Opening Cut to make the opening instead of void(s) and uncheck transparency in elevation in ribbon. This will show up if you select the opening cut (easier to find if you select all and filter for opening cut), when editing the family.

Uncheck transparency for Opening cutUncheck transparency for Opening cut

edit: see #6 on difference with Revit 2020/2021. A window with void cut instead of opening cut will not show transparent in realistic view in rvt20 but it will in rvt21.

Opening cuts are not working for us. An opening cuts throug the entire wall.

We use voids because the wall does not have to be completely cut in the same place. We have 3 layers for an outer wall. The outer wall, insulation and the inner wall and these three layers can differ in size.

It's not possible to use both (void+opening cut) within the family itself, but you will need the opening cut to control the transparency setting. You can use nested face-based family for void cuts and wrapping closure reference planes ie to control the differences that you mention.

Or you could build in a non-transparent solid behind the glass or within the glass, multi-layered glass that is, in the family in its own subcategory and control it's visibility in the views I suppose. For instance one pane glass in glass subcategory combined with a solid pane in a new 'transparency'-type subcategory (then possibly another glass pane) to control in V/G.

The technique of unchecking the "transparent in elevation" property of the opening cut does not seem to work, at least not in all cases. Any other ideas?

To make a Window look transparent in Elevation Views, you need to actually hide the glazing in the View (e.g. turn the Subcategory off).

I am trying to do the opposite.

Any ideas on how to make the glazing and doors in curtain walls not show transparent in elevations?  The opening cut check box fixed the doors and windows.  I am still having trouble figuring out the curtain walls.

Edit the families and add masking region on elevation view, constrain with the dimensions of door/window.
