The same issue occurs in the section view. I would be satisfied with just the standard detail lines that appear when hovering with the mouse. However, ideally, I would prefer the detail level shown in the last picture, which is taken from a section box in a 3D view.
The 3D geometry is probably not checked to show in the plan view and section.
If your family has the 2D line work, check which sub-categories the lines in the family were created and maybe your view template (or visibility graphics) has those categories unchecked.
if not this then send the family it could be many other things

@theslacollier I’m sorry for the late reply, and thank you for your thorough answer — much appreciated!

I tried your suggestion, but it doesn’t work for the project I’m working on. However, by accident, I discovered a solution. If I use the "Cut Geometry" tool , first selecting the window, then selecting the attached wall, it works. There seems to be something blocking the view in the family model.
The only issue is that there’s now too much detail. The 2D linework to represent the window still doesn’t show up in plan view, and in the family model, there doesn’t seem to be a subcategory for this. As a workaround, I’ve been manually drawing the lines in the family model, but this isn’t ideal.
