Hi all,
I have prepared a window family family as per our project requirements with nested components. The window has two separate components placed on top of each other. When I place this in project, I am only able to see the cut of upper panel and not the bottom panel. I have tried changing the view range of both project and family(each component) and adjust to see if it comes at any of the preferred ranged but it fails to do so. Kindly help me on this. I am attaching the file. Thanks a ton in advance.
I am using view range as 1600(cut plane) which helps me view all the important parts of my plan. The size of window I will be using is 1200x1350mm. Also attached the images for reference.
Thanks

Windows in Revit behave a little bit differently from other families. The cut plane inside the window family determines the cut plane of the window in the project. Have a look at THIS page on HOK BIM solutions for a detailed explanation.

Hi Louis, thanks for the quick reply.. i have referred the page you mentioned before posting this and tried to follow the same process. but the problem is persistent.. the bottom panel family when nested in the window family is not getting cut properly(as per geometry) even when you try changing the view ranges of both the panel family as well as in the window family.. i am not able pinpoint where exactly i am going wrong.. ![]()
I am not exactly sure what sill height you used in the project for your windows?
I had a close look at your family. You use generic families for most of your nested families
However some families will show when above your cut plane. An one of those is generic families (see HERE).
So at the moment when you lower your cut plane in the project (e.g cutting through the lower sliding frame), the frame above (i.e. the fixed frame) is still showing in the view, thus blocking the view of frame below.
Possible solutions are, changing the category of the nested families so that they do not have the behavior of being visible above the cut plane. Or you could follow the advise as mentioned on the HOK site, hide the geometry in plan view and make use of symbolic lines to show the window correctly in plan view.

Take a look at the attached Revit file including the window family I have edited. I hope you can reverse engineer it and figure out hot to make it work.
Basic principle:
- Add vertical model line that extends to the planned cut plane to the lower child window family so that they can be cut in the host family and in the project. Set it as invisible in all views.
- Add a detail family to present the cut plan section of your lower window. Nest and match parameters.
Hi Louis, Thanks a ton. This makes sense. I will rework the family. From the link you provided they have mentioned that some family categories will appear in the view even when above the cut plane. I just wanted to know which all won't, so that in future I don't end up doing same mistake. Thanks again. Cheers!

If you follow the link in my previous post it mentions those categories.
The following component family categories will appear in the view even when above the cut plane:
Casework
Generic Model
Structural Columns
Windows
