Window Family Width Parameter Problems

Hi all,

I come again in need of a solution to a single issue that i seem to have with my window family.  I thought i had it fully flexed in both the project file and family editor.  However when i try to edit the width of the window this time the frame keeps extruding the wider the window gets.

Would really be greatful for a solution.  At the end of my tether here now.  Family file is attached below.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Thomas

If something does not move or moves in unwanted directions you do not have enough constraints or placed constraints in the wrong places.

In this case your sweep gets stretched.

If things get complicated take a step back and see where the issue is.

I started (temporarily) deleting all elements except the sweep. Then the sweep behaved as expected.

I undeleted a single element and tested it again. It fails

In this case that small element does not change size and holds the sweep in place causing the stretch.

So this is what you have to correct. Few extra reference planes and fixed dimensions will do the trick.

You can repeat this process for other elements and see if other elements cause issues with the sweep.

In short take a few steps back look where/when issues start and solve partial issues before taking next step.

Create the sweep profile as a separate profile family with dimensions need to flex nested to parameters of the window family. Then load it in and use for sweeping.

Sorry, I'm not quite following this explanation could you elaborate a bit, thanks.

see attached.

Two sketched sweep profiles converted to Profile Families (Family13.rfa and Family14.rfa).

Don't Sweep for the frame. Sweeps are notoriously difficult to control. Use an Extrusion instead.

Keep It Severely Simple.

I've got to disagree.  Sweeps are far more superior than Extrusions if you need a profile to follow a non linear, L, U, Z, or O path.  Sweeps can use profile families versus Extrusions can only use sketching lines.  Sweeps can use pick 3D path which doesn't require manual constraints.
