I'm having an issue with a window family in 2019. It does not show certain objects when loaded into the project. They seem to act fine in the family file but not in the project.
Here are a set of views to illustrate the problem.
The mullions and glazing units do not show up in the Floor Plan view of the project but show up fine in the family reference floor plan view. I have checked the visibilty of the objects and they seem to be fine. If I create a horizontal section through the family inside the project then the objects show up properly, just not in the floor plan view. Image - Top right is the family reference view, bottom right is how it shows in the floor plan, bottom left is how the section shows up, and top left shows the section cut at 4' A.F.F. just like the cut plane of the floor plan view.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would like to change the family so there are different objects shown for the three levels of detail but have to solve this issue first.
Regards Peter.
Thanks BUT... If you read the post, I did say "I have checked the visibilty of the objects and they seem to be fine". Also if the visibility settings were changed there would be no difference between the floor plan view and horizontal section view.
Regards Peter.
I think I may know what's going on here. Window Cut View in the Project is determined by the Cut Plane in the FAMILY.
Adjust the Cut Plane in the Family's Plan View to correct.
Thanks for the tip but it looks correct inside the family in the Ref Level view and the CUT plane in the Ref level view is the same as the cut plane in the project floor plan.
It's strange because the section view and the section box view in 3d shows the proper sectioning of the window family. It almost seems as though it is some visibility setting in the Floor plan of the project but everything is turned on. It's pretty strange.
Regards Peter.
The problem is....Revit doesn't cut sweeps in windows properly .
Change your "Window" category to "Generic Model" in the family then load into the project...it will look correct.
A buddy of mine sets up pretty much all of his families as Generic Models, except doors, as they "cut properly".
This has been an ongoing issue for years and lots of ideas about it have been posted...mine being one of them.
@Anonymous is on point.
When the window frame sweep is cut by the view range in project, you see the horizontal segment above of the sweep. If you don't want to change the family category to Generic, you can turn the sweep to not show on Plan/RCP, and use symbolic lines/masking region/detail component to present the frame on Plan view.
Or, don't use a close loop sweep, draw the frame with jambs, sill, header as separate sweeps or extrusions, set the jambs and sill show on Plan/RCP, set the header to not.
@Anonymous: That's a curious statement. Perhaps I'm misreading you, but virtually every single window we use has sweeps in them. We have no like issues.
...Ah! I get your point now!
Try it with the window that was posted....even if you set the view range in the family it will still show the elements "above" the cut plane. My guess is someone changed the visibility of the upper transom in your families if similar to the OP's window... Which btw, that works too
It actually doesn't matter if it is a sweep or an extrusion....Windows just don't cut properly...
Your Visibility settings may seem fine, but they are not.
Untick the Plan/RCP box
I've spent 3 hours looking through solutions, redesigning my window and changing the family view range over and over again but your comment finally solved the issue in just a second!!! Thank youuu
Still an issue in Revit 2023. I just got the window mullions to show up on the plan by changing the family type to generic model.
