I've been trying to generate correct (UK Building Regs Compliant) domestic staircases now with Revit for a few months and still cannot master it.
In order to draw compliant staircases, I have used stair by sketch, which is fine. I can do this no problem.
However when it comes to designing 3 or 4 kite winding staircases, Revit cannot generate the stair strings correctly, neither can I edit individual strings. This is a fundamental flaw in Revit.
Why isn't it possible to have more control over string creation? I've even played with splitting boundaries and still cant get it to work how i want it to.
I've highlighted in my attachment the string that Revit has generated, yet there is no way of control this string to display correctly without changing all of the strings for the staircase at once.
When AutoDesk address the stair creation, it will be a good day indeed!!
Hello @Anonymous,
It is not always possible to create your stair design with the Revit Stair Tools.
You can create lots of nice stairs and railings with it but there are also lots of creations where it is better to create a stair family by your own or find the combination of modeling the stair with the Stair Tool and model the railing with your own family.
Thanks for the reply.
Although I accept this is the case that extra modelling will be involved to get my desired staircase, it is simply not good enough to have a stair tool in program if it is not fit for purpose.
The stair function I require is basic. What is the point of a parametric stair tool of it does not create and display stairs correctly?
This is one of the most frustrating aspects to Revit and I hope a representative from AutoDesk is reading this....

Hello @Anonymous,
If you provide an example like @Alfredo_Medina mentioned please write a good detailed item on the Revit IDEA forum.
The Autodesk development team will definitely look at any idea.
