Why is this material takeoff SO wrong?

Finish material on these super simple stairs. Same material for risers and treads (ceramic tiles). Area of tiles should be 0.84m2. Revit reports 1.87m2.
Why?

Paint the treads and risers if you don't want to do the math yourself.

Oh wow, it actually calculates area of the tiles from all sides!

Why? Why would they do it like that? Why does a BIM software report back wrong quantities? Who needs area of finish from all sides? They did it right on floors, it reports area of finish as it should.

Does this go back to Revit being made for primarily USA market where everything is made of wood, maybe that's when you need the complete area, for paint, or something?

 

Manually paining all stairs on a 6 levels building would be no fun at all 😕
