Why doesn't Exclude Options stay unchecked?
You do one thing and the box rechecks itself. It makes working with the primary option a pain.
It's functioning the way it's suppose to. If you want to work within a particular Design Option, select that Design Option from the drop-down box to enable continuous editing.
Certain things can be frustrating to some and not to others and it is hard to make a call on such options....if it would have been always unchecked someone will ask Why can't it always be checked...Same goes for several other tools...example "copy" always checked by default when mirroring...one unchecks it; restart the tool and it's checked again
I guess they could recode it and change it to "null" by default or to remember the last action... but I guess there are more pressing things to fix than a checked or unchecked option by default

@barthbradley I wouldn't even need Exclude Options if it were possible to edit a wall type while working in a Design Option. Why that is the case I don't know either.
@RDAOU I see your point but Autodesk is kind of random about what switches have memory. Take Align Multiple for example. It stays on even after you leave the command. A switch should remain on till the user switches it off.
I have no idea what you're saying to me, nor why you marked your own posted reply to me and Rob as a solution to your issue. What is the solution?
I know there is some inconsistency...and I'm not sure anyone can explain it...Maybe because Revit was bought/acquired and development has been patch working and performing plastic surgery ever since till date.. ![]()
Anyhow... I'm Not sure in which way that solved your issue but hey! As long as the customer thinks he is happy who gives a ...
you can also try Revit Idea forum...post what pops in your mind
you might get lucky and they fulfill it...anything that comes on to your mind do not hesitate ... there they have the policy Every Single Thought counts...regardless what that thought might be (I leave the rest for your imagination)

When I'm working in a Design Option I can't modify wall types. I get a message telling me "Element must be in Main Model". I have to then go back to the Main Model and uncheck Exclude Options so I can select the wall (normally unselectable while in the Main Model) so I can modify the type.
As for the solution I don't remember hitting the solved button. I set it to Not the Solution.
Okay, I get it. Just as I understood before. You simply don't like the way Design Options work. Personally, I like the fact that my DOs are "locked". Makes management of them easy, and guards against mistakes. It's no problem to just toggle on the DO that I want to edit in the view. And when I'm done editing, just toggle back to Main Model.
...just wondering: are you perhaps not understanding how DOs work? It's really not that difficult of a workflow. Could be that you are doing it wrong? I know that when I first started using them, I was doing them wrong and hating everything about them. HA! Good Luck to you.
The problem stems from not being able to edit a wall type while working in the Design Option. Otherwise I'm fine with them.
Sorry I can't dumb it down anymore for you.
This is kinda a B.S. excuse, at what point is it okay to blame auto desk for the problems in this program?
@Anonymous
This is a user forum...ie. user help user. We are not customer service so we do not have to take other users BS but hey if it solves your problem, you can go on blaming whoever you want till whenever you want! ![]()

I really couldn't agree more with you on that. Should be easy enough to adjust really... Nobody unchecks that button by accident... One of the biggest mistakes developers can make is to think software should (always) "think for you"...
This is by design and documented:
I happen to think it's a good thing.

I really don't see anything about the exclude options remaining unchecked in the link you provided and why this would be deliberate. It is a good thing you can un-exclude objects, the checkbox not remaining unchecked isn't. To eleborate, I would like to see it not get re-checked when hitting escape a couple of times (which I think is an autocad habit probably).
Hi, is there any solutions? the default settings really bugged me
it's like after you do something and press esc to finish the command
and then your main layer will always return to 0 and then LOCKED ALL of OTHER LAYERS in AutoCAD,
IT'S NOT A FEATURE, IT'S JUST A BUG NEEDS TO BE FIXED.
