Why can't Revit add the length of lines?

It would be a really nice built in feature if Revit could simply add up a chain of lines for you.  For example, a boundary around a floor's edge, or filled region, or any chain of detail lines.

Any answers would be appreciated.

you can do that with a chain of model lines
