I know that I am able to flip lighting elements on the work plane by selecting each fixture and clicking on the double arrows. But why is every light family I open built upside down?
I'm inserting hanging lights, I should say ALL lights, and they ALL insert upside down on my ceilings in reflected ceiling plan. I haven't seen any that have orientation options in the properties dialog. And, as I said, whenever I open the Family to see if there's an insertion orientation option, they are all upside down? Rookie question I'm sure but can someone help me to understand how to make this work.
Thank You
Thanks Bart but I'm still baffled as to why the are all drawn, and insert upside down.
My suggestion would be to place then in 3D View and tweak their location in RCP View.

Any problems when you place them in 3D Views?
Is the ceiling actual geometry? Does it have thickness?
Are you using basic ceiling with no thickness? The light may be placed on the different side of the plane. You may want to use the light flip switch.
one other point, FWIW: if you are hosting the Fixtures to Named Ref. Plane/Workplanes, those have a "top" and "bottom" as well - depending on how you drew them (e.g. from left to right or from right to left).
