When selecting a family in a Project Nested vs Family

So, I have families with nested families inside it so I can schedule each part inside of that family. When I try to select the Main family I can only select the shared nested family. Not sure if I changed something or if there is something that changed in the last update. Revit 2019.2  Generic Family with generic nested families inside.

family attached.

Here it is selected as a whole unless I TAB to select the nested components.

For some reason it does not in my project. So is there a setting I or IT has changed like Navis Works where you can decide how far you can select into a file you have loaded.

Not that I know of. Does it happen when you insert this family in different projects?

Hi @Anonymous

The problem is the way the family is built.  In the Floor plan Ref Level, the Centre reference plane (Centre Front/Back) is below the model.  your Reference planes need to be set correctly in the Family, so that Revit can understand the extent, Centre, origin etc..  you need to move the family down to be centred on the Centre Front/Back Ref Plane and then create new reference planes for Front, Back, Left and Right

Actually it has nothing to do with your family model.  It has to do with your View Template settings.

The problem is that the hosted family is turned off in the View template but the rest of the models are not.

So for me, I had a GENERIC model that hosted a bed & two bed side tables (furniture), two lights (Light Fixtures), and  some art work (Special Equipment).

When Generic Models are turned off, all the other families stay on, but you can not select them as a whole.  You can selected one of them and move the entire family but until the Generic Families is turned on.

Hope this helps.
