What is the best way to get trim moved back to the plywood plane?

When adding windows in a wall, my window trim ends up outside of the finish layers - see below

What would be a good way for the trim to be adjacent to the plywood instead of outside of the finish?

This is stock double hung window with trim from Revit. This particular wall has stud, plywood and finish as a single wall. The window thickness is based on the host wall thickness, what would be a way to make 1/2" less thick?

have you looked at the settings in the window properties?

  • if you just want to adjust the thickness of the trim, that should be in there.
  • if you want to move the trim back up against the plywood you will need to edit window family to give it an offset (if there is not a properties in the window already to do that)

Yes, that's generally how trim as placed.  It's practical purpose is to cover the gap between the Window Frame and the Wall Framing.

...a.k.a. "casing", "molding".

I'm trying to achieve something like this image. See how the shingles do not go behind the trim, rather they are in the same plane?

Ah! You are referring to the exterior casing!  I believe the stock Revit Double Hung has an "Inset" Parameter to do just that.

Apparently, Revit Windows don't adjust that way.  You'll need to build that functionality into the Window yourself.  Or, you could just use a Window Family that is already built to do that. Check out the "Inset to Installation Flange" in the  attached Marvin Single Hung.
