What are the options to model the Roof Crickets?

The roof that was created for the flat commercial roof (actually, sloped with the joists, so there are several roofs there) has to have some crickets on the lower portions of the roof (near the roof drains) and also in other areas.   The roof would not let me do the  points surface modifications since it is telling me that the roof is too "thin" (what that exactly means that the roof is not thick enough to use these tools?).

So I need a another way to create the crickets that normally are seen on the roof, which quite often show like triangles on a roof plan, but on the model have to be seen in 3D.

What are the ways to create these?

If flat roofs you can modify sub-element and raise points/split lines. If sloped roofs, you can place other roofs on top of it for the crickets then join them.

modeling roof crickets is easy. There's a bunch of tutorials on-line going way back. None of those working for you?
