Weird display glitches within Revit 2016

Hi there,

We have several users in our architecture firm experiencing this display issue when working within Revit 2016. All machines are running Windows 7, but all three machines have different hardware. When running Revit, if you minimize Revit, sometimes the display will go black (monitor is still on, but entire background is black with no cursor) for a few seconds, then comes back. Other times, it will display a small vertical sliver of another application (see attached screenshot) or black horizontal lines (see other screenshot). Any ideas?

Here are the specs for one of the machines (it's a custom desktop):

NVIDIA Quadro K2200 (with AD certified driver)

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz

32 GB RAM

Thank you!

This is very strange. The machine specs you listed exceed the Revit requirements for more than basic use. How large is the hard drive and how much free space is there? Here are a few other things you could try:

1. You can try restarting the program (which I assume you've already tried)

2. You can set your computers display to windows 95 theme, which drastically improves performance, although I doubt this will solve your issue as computer performance is likely not the issue.

3. If the file you're working with is very large, trying purging all unused items.

4. Does it happen in only this one project? or all projects? If it is only that project, it is possible the file or a family within the file is corrupt.

5. You can try a clean install of Revit 2016 again.

6. You could try to reinstall the operating system again.

Does it only happen with a specific program running in the background? Try closing all other programs and see if this issue gets resolved.

Thank you for your quick response!

The hard drive is using roughly only half of its 512GB capacity. This issue is not intermittent and can be easily reproduced with any model on any given day. We've tried running on Windows Basic and Windows Classic themes and the issue persists. We've tried swapping out the video cables, towers, reimaged hard drive, swapped out for a new monitor. No luck.

Seems like you've taken care of most of the basics. I'm sure reinstalling Revit or the operating system won't help considering it is on three separate computers. Have you found a pattern associated with specific programs triggering the issue? Have you found a way to resolve the issue temporarily?

Unfortunately, no temporary solution has been found. The affected users have just been "dealing with it". Seems to happen when the Revit window is minimized, maximized, or hidden.

Hmm, Unfortunately, I don't think I can be of much help going forward at this point. It's very strange that it happens between the three computers, which leads me to believe it could be something much more in-depth, such as a networking issue. Sadly, I am not an expert, so my advice is somewhat basic. It has to be something that all three computers have in common with each other.

If it is a central file, it could potentially be a file issue such as corruption. I sure hope that's not the case, but I've ran into several corrupt file instances.
