Weather file used for energy simulations in Revit 2017

To whom it may concern,

I read that the weather files used for energy simulations in Revit are often given in TMY format (Typical Meteorological Year).  This is based on historical averages, usually over the span of 30 years.  How can I know the time span of the files used from the weather stations in Revit 2017?  How often are these updated? Any comments will be highly appreciated!

Kind regards,

José Luis Bermúdez Alcocer, Ph.D., M.Arch., B.Arch.

Hi José Luis

You are correct. Revit uses TMY data format for energy simulation. The data is either acquired from the nearest physical station or obtain from the virtual weather station.

To know what year the data comes from for a virtual weather station, navigate to Manage - Location and click weather. You will see For physical weather station, which means the data is obtained from 30 years average to 2004.

For physical weather station navigate to manage -  Location - type the location address and click on the closest weather station - click on weather. You will find the weather station code_year ( e.g 15600_2006). That implies the year is 2006 which means the TMY is based on the historical average of 30 years to 2006.

I hope this answers your questions?
