Hello all,
I currently wish to learn Autodesk Revit 2017. I have no experience with this program at all, but i currently work in the construction industry and I am going back to school and feel that this software will be in my professional interest to learn. Before i invest my money in a powerful laptop/desktop, i would prefer to reach a level of knowledge and commitment with the software first. The following are my current laptop specs. Please tell me if you think the specs are sufficient to start learning the software and at what point the laptop will become ineffective. Also, if a previous version of Revit might be a bit more manageable by my current laptop specs, I would consider that version instead of the 2017 version.
Roughly 2 years old
ASUS laptop X550LNV-NB51
Intel core i5 4210U (dual core) (1.7 GHz up to 2.7 GHz w/ turbo)
8 GB RAM - 750 GB HDD (5400 rpm)
NVIDIA GeForce 840M - 2GB
Thank you in advance!
Hi @Anonymous,
Welcome to the Autodesk forum.
Its difficult to say from here of your laptop good enough is.
On the Autodesk site you can check by yourself if it is good or not.

I think that this laptop will run Revit but it will not likely run particularly well. The video memory is pretty low for this day and age so you could have issues with large complex projects. When it comes to the version of revit you will need it really depends on what you plan to do with it. If you plan to do your own architectural work then you might consider an older version, but if you want to interface with an architect and use his file as a project link then you will need to be running the same year version that they are running.
Others can probably further help on whether your laptop is up for the task.
