Walls won't edit

I am about 1-1/2 months into using Revit and have a new issue. I have created walls in Revit 2017. When wall is selected I am unable to change phasing as well as height. These are interior walls. Currently the height is grayed out at 24'-0" (03-New Phasing) and I need them to be 8'-0" (01-Exst Phasing)

Am I missing a setting someplace? I have tested pretty much everything I could think of prior to coming here.

Phase created seems editable. Click on the name of the phase and select other phases from the drop down.

For the height - the wall is constrained to a level. Either remove that constraint, or for Top Offset, change the value to Top Level - Difference = 8'-0"

Thank you for your reply.

First, the wall is locked in to 24'-0" so when I change the Top Offset to 8'-0" the wall increases to 32'-0"

Next, under the phasing pulldown - I have 1 choice and that's it. I must be missing something somewhere.

I'm sure this will get easier once I learn the software more.

You need to tell the wall to NOT lock to the next level. Top Constraint needs to be Unconnected. Again, click on the name of the level that the top of the wall is constrained to and select None. That will unlock Unconnected Height, which is what you are looking for and you can enter the height that you need.

Re Phases - check Manage>>Phases to see if phases have been created. If the phases do exist, they will show up in a drop down when you click on the Phase Created or the Phase Demolished.

Lastly - is this on a locked / uneditable Workset? Click on Collaborate>>Worksets and make sure that the Workset is editable.

Finally - all else failing - can you share a file?

I have highlighted my wall, I then clicked on "Base Constraint" in the properties box and it is locked on 1st Floor. I then clicked on "Top Constraint" and it is locked on "Up to Level: 2nd Floor".

I have also clicked the button "Detach Top/Base and nothing works.

Phasing, All phases are present and accounted for. ALL entities ARE editable. I do apologize however I am unable to share files. I can however snap jpeg's should they be needed.

Save a copy of your file, remove everything but the offending wall. Surely that would be allowable?

A note - in order to save and send work to a remote location where the central file will not be available (as you have done by sending this file to me) please open your file as Detached, and preserve worksets. If you don't, the file will cry for its Mommy.

Ma'am,

I have opened this file on (2) different computers and it works just fine. I have also updated my software and this did not work. I guess I will continue to look for that elusive setting that I am missing.

Yes ma'am I have and I am UNABLE to get pulldowns like you're showing. The walls are stuck on "Base Constraint - 1st Floor" and "Top Constraint - Up to Level: 2nd Floor".

I have zero other options other than those 2. I have also clicked "Reveal Constraints" and see none in either view.

Very strange. It was your file that was used as the base for the screencast, so I should be seeing exactly what you are seeing.

I would whole heartedly agree with you since it has worked on (3) different systems.

There should be no reason for the drop downs to not show up, irrespective of which system it is that you use.

Detaching files when they are being sent to a location where they are not on your server is standard practice. It allows the file to function smoothly away from its native server without trying to sync with the central model.

@Anonymous hello, just a wild guess try to change the top constraint to Unconnected first and then you will be able to change the height. thanks

Hi, i was facing the same issue and i found out later that its happening because the walls are attached to the base and detach doesnt work  too. so i just deleted the floors and it seemed to work fine after that.
