Walls - Parts vs Join

I don't use parts, but am experimenting with a method for creating walls where it could possibly be useful to divide an exterior wall into parts. However, when a wall is divided into parts, and one part of the wall height has been modified by using a Shape Handle, the wall can no longer be Joined to another element, such as a roof overhang. If the wall is joined first, the Parts cannot be modified. If the wall Parts are modified first, and the wall is then joined to a roof, then the wall Parts shape reverts back to original.

Am I missing something? TIA. mpp

What is it that you want to do?

I want to be able to have the exterior siding lower than the top of the wall, which I can achieve with Parts, and also be able to join the wall to other walls and roofs. Can't do both.

Attach the wall twice, first to the roof, then to the soffit.

@ToanDN I don't understand how you did that. When I Part a wall, and Join it to other element(s), I get this Error:

Revit will not allow me to have a wall joined to other elements, AND the wall to be Parts and one of the those Parts adjusted with a Shape Handle.

I showed that you don't need to convert walls to parts for what you are trying to achieve.

And you cannot join parts with other components, only merge parts with parts.

You didn't say you didn't use Parts.

How many walls did you use?

I never said I did use parts. What I did say was "attach the wall (not walls) twice...". Please read again.

@ToanDN sorry for the delayed response, I'v e been sick.

Again, please, how many walls did you use in your example? How did you get the exterior brick finish to not go above the soffit? Did you use a separate wall for the exterior finish?

@ToanDN

"And you cannot join parts with other components, only merge parts with parts."

This was the answer to my original question I was looking for. Thank you

One wall.

OK, now I see that you've used one wall. But, I still do not understand how you got the exterior finish layer to not go above the soffit. This is what I get: all layers of the wall go the full height of the wall, and the exterior finish layer goes above the soffit.

Extend the boundary of the soffit to the core of the wall.

I've done that already. I do not get the result you got. Still do not understand.

I'm using two walls, the stud wall is on the right side of the Grid, the insulation and finish is on the left side of the Grid. But that's irrelevant for this issue. Soffit unjoined:

Share your model, or copy paste those components to another model and share it.

I can't upload a file... I've made a copy, deleted and purged everything except the walls, roofs and soffits in question, the file is too large for the system to upload. Compressing the file doesn't make it small enough. I can't copy-paste the walls, roofs, and soffits into a new file because Revit throws too many errors that can't be fixed.
