Hi,

I am using a wall sconce fixture from the revit library, and for some reason when i place it on certain wall types it only shows the glass/shade (red circle).

Any idea what could be causing this issue?

Thanks

how would we know if you do not share the family you are facing issues with?

could it be a face based and you are hosting it on the wrong face? Otherwise, do the following. Place two walls in an empty model. One wall type which works with the sconce as expected and another of the type which is causing the issue you discribed. Place the fixture on both and post that here

I think you have two walls in there, and the 'wrong' one is hosting. Try placing in a view that only has the right wall.

First of all, thank you all for replying to my post.

RDAOU, this is the fixture i am using (pic above). It is from the the revit library.

I did the exercise you told me, and let me try to explain what happened. I inserted my wall type on an empty drawing and then i created a new wall with a default revit cmu wall type.

I attached the fixture to both walls and it worked on the new wall but it still had the same issue on my wall type, but as soon as i added the hat channel layer and the drywall layer to the new wall i got an error message (pic below) therefore, i assume there is a setting on that family that prevents the family to show correctly. I have attached the family as well.

ERROR MESSAGE:

Thanks for your help.

The family is too big to upload it.

If thats a face based fixture...probably you have hosted on the wrong work plane or Face...Try the flip work plane see if that helps

If it is a wall based, the error message implies there’s some sort constraints issues within the family itself. This could be preventing the instance—or parts of it (e.g., a poorly constrained extrusion)—from being created, and is likely also causing issues when attempting to delete it. For instance, the family is constrained in a way which did not consider the changing thickness of the wall; hence, when you created a new type with a different over all built up thickness it broke the family

Cannot tell for sure unless you upload something to check . A file containing just a wall and a sconce shouldn't be too large to share. Simply select the wall and the sconce in your model, paste them into a new empty project, purge, save, and upload the file.

@camilo7QSK2

It is breaking for the reasons mentioned in the previous reply — the extrusion needs to be locked to the placement side, and ideally the other sketch lines of the extrusion as well; this would prevent the extrusion from breaking when the wall thickness change. Please use one of the attached families instead.

  • 2022Arch is a wall based
  • 2022Mech is a face based

Both should work as intended.
