Wall Patterns - Elevations & 3D

Hi All,

Relatively new user here. Using 2018 Revit.

Can anyone enlighten me as to how to change the pattern/hatch on a wall to show brick? The wall type is brick veneer, the wall structure has brick and brick pattern but on the elevations and 3D view nothing, only vertical lines.

I can't 'paint' over it as it will only let me use drafting patterns.

As an autocad user this is frustrating.

Many thanks.

You are probably referring to the Brick Appearance Material (the photorealistic one). Material Appearance Images are only displayed in Realistic and Rendered Views.

...Actually, maybe you are not.  Maybe you are referring to the Material's Graphic Surface Pattern.  Brick hatch in this case. If you are not seeing it in 3D it could be due to a number of things.  Could be View Angle and Distance. Brick is a Model Pattern, meaning that it is it doesn't scale up or down with View Scale.  Zoom in close on the Wall. Do you see it?

Did you look at both interior and exterior elevations?  Edit the brick material and check surface pattern definition.

That's not accurate. You can Paint Materials that have Model Patterns if you want to.

I don't know where that Vertical Linework is coming from. Did you Override Graphics?

Check your VGO's under Wall Category.

...Post a Screenshot of the Exterior Wall Material's Graphic Tab Settings.

Manage Tab=>Materials.

But, instead of accessing Material's that way, access them through your Edit Wall Assembly dialog box by pressing this button (...) next to your Wall Exterior Finish Layer:

The best advice I could give you is to model the structure in Revit as it will be built in the field - NOT how it would be drawn in AutoCAD.  Basically: think three-dimensionally.

In this case, you are misusing the Paint Command - and in so doing, dumbing down the Revit Model.  You don't "Paint" the Wall Material Properties onto the Walls in Revit. You model the Walls/Wall Layers with Components that have Material Properties.  Those properties go far beyond how the component "looks".
