Wall not cutting in the plan view?

Hi all,

For some reason, the wall is not cutting correctly when shown in the plan view. The wall has been created from a mass, but will not cut via the plan, even though a similar wall (just above it) has been successfully cut through even though it has been modelled the same way. Does anyone have a solution to this?

Hello @connor.coulson.design, Thank you for the Question!

When I’ve seen behavior like this in the past it often relates to interactions with other elements in the project (that may not be easily visible in the view).

To check if this is what is happening here, you could try copying the wall into a new project (along with the geometry intended to be cut), and then see if it cuts as expected. If it does, then this would indicate that the behavior is related to one or more of the other elements in the model. To identify the particular element, you could copy other elements from the original project into the new project until the issue shows up again in the new project.

I can't make out what I'm looking at.  Post the file.

Is the wall or a portion of it below 6'?  that will cause the wall to display as projected rather than cut.

I've attached the massing, the portion of the building I want to cut is on the same level, so I don't understand why It won't show up as cut on the plans.

There is nothing but a Mass Form in this project. You messing with me? :zwinkerndes_Gesicht:

Haha sorry forgot to add the walls!

Looks beautiful! What's wrong with it?

The problem is the southern element, highlighted with the red asterix, should be cutting like the northern element in plan, however it isn't for what ever reason!

Like this?

Yeah like that, just in plan view because I want to show all the openings of doors etc. within the model.

Strange. Change your Detail Level in the Plan View to Course and it looks "almost" fine.

BUG!!!

...maybe not. Dunno.

This is such a strange error, I cannot seem to wrap my head around it.

I would submit it to Autodesk.  If you do, please let us know what they say.

From what I’m finding it looks like there is a problem with the openings that have been cut in the mass (removing these allows the cut plane to cut the wall), and for some reason changing the location line of the wall, affects the behavior as well. I think the issue is related to how the thickness of the wall is interacting with the openings.

If you change the walls location line from Finish Face Exterior to Wall Centerline (or any other value), are you seeing that it is cutting as expected?

I swap the wall to one material concrete and it cuts properly. If you have multiple layers, this is where it glitches out.
