Good afternoon, I have a wall hosted family, it's a L-shaped kitchen,

I have this situation:

And I need to place more wall hosted elements like wall cabinets, BUT there is only one wall, I tried to insert an empty family wall to get my L-Shaped and it did not work. any suggestions please?

thank you

I am working on my NCARB towards my California Architect License,
if you think you can help me to complete my AXP, please let me know, I will really appreciate it. Thank you & Stay Wealthy, Happy, Healthy and Safe 🙂

Use families that are not wall hosted.

Sounds like you need a bigger boat (e.g. Wall)?

you should be able to place a wall and host your cabinets to it. then hide the wall in view (the wall will have to be hidden anywhere it is visible)? or put the wall on a workset and turn off the workset. the hosted elements should stay.

My recommendation is turn that wall into 1/8" (2.5mm) thickness which represent your wall tile. That way those object can be host in a group and you copy those everywhere.

2 solutions were given. Create a host wall and hide it in the view or use a "non-hosted" family.

A 3rd option might be to build onto your Wall-Hosted family.

try this 4th option:

  1. Start a New Project
  2. Create a Wall
  3. Load and place an Instance of your Wall Hosted Family on this Wall.
  4. Select Wall-Hosted Family and Edit Family to Open Family.
  5. Change the Category of the Family to Air Terminals
  6. Reload Family into Project
  7. Save and Close the Project.  Let's call it "Project A".
  8. Start a New Project
  9. Link the "Project A" in this new Project
  10. Go to Collaborate Tab, select Copy/Monitor: Select Link and select the Link
  11. Select Batch Copy: Copy the Fixtures and then select the one Instance of the Wall-Hosted Family and then click Finish.
  12. Select the Copied Wall-Hosted Family and Edit Family to Open Family
  13. In the Family, select the Host Wall and Delete it.
  14. Change the Category to Casework
  15. Verify the Work Plane-Based is Checked and Always Vertical is Unchecked
  16. Go to Plan View and select the Ref. Plane at the backside of the cabinet and make it the “Origin”.
  17. Select the original "Origin" Ref. Plane, verify that “Origin” is Unchecked and Is Reference reads “Not a Reference”, and then Unpin it and move it to backside of Cabinet.
  18. Save Family to new name.

Now this Family is Work Plane-Based. Test it.  You'll have 2 Placement Options available when placing an Instance of it in the Project. Place on Face and Place on Work Plane.  Choose Place on Work Plane and Place on Wall Face.  In Plan View, Select Instance and use the Rotate tool to rotate the Cabinet 90 degrees.

I think that covers it.

or simply get pyRevit to turn any wall/floor/roof/ceiling based family to a face based family (and even to a non-host family).

edit:

11. Select Batch Copy=>Copy the Fixtures=>Continue copying fixtures, and then click Copy and select the one Instance of the Wall-Hosted Family. Then click Finish.
