The trim on my door cuts into the wall and so I put voids in the wall and cut them out of the host wall within the family, so that when I load it, it automatically cuts the voids out of the wall. "Cut with Voids When Loaded" isn't an option, if I got it to work without having to do this step then I don't want to revert to adding an unnecessary step. And it worked problem free but today when I try to add one for the top piece of trim, Revit tells me there cannot be voids and openings in the same host. I'm stumped because yesterday it was cutting the wall without issue.
I was working on a door that wasn't mine and the wall opening was a void - but the family was having placement issues - so I created my own from scratch, and the wall opening in a default door family template is an actual opening. So I am stumped as to why the voids were still able to cut the host wall within the family although now it is giving me the error, "A family cannot have an opening and a cut in the same host!" I copied all the elements (without constraints/parameters) into the default door family template and made the cuts using the same voids. So I tried creating the cut in the old door family and copy it in a similar way but it will not cut the wall.
I'm wondering if there's something I'm overlooking, I can't for the life of me remember specifically what I did differently that allowed the void to cut the host wall. I'm aware that I can make the opening a void and be done with it but I prefer leaving default elements in place as much as possible. Any help is appreciated.
As you can see the vertical voids are cutting and the new horizontal is not.
Maybe one of the door parts is a nested family. Then you'll be able to have both voids and openings.

I think the answer is on the same warning. You either use opening cuts or voids to substract the geometry that you need.
This solution worked great. Just nested the opening window into another window family
