void in a family

hello

i need to put a void around a "box".

the box and the void are in the same family

the box is some MEP component that needs to bo inserted in floors or in the ground

thisfamily that i want to insert have to "hide/cut" with void the support that hosts it

the family is a plumbing fixtures, it's the less worth category i found...

hte void as the same geometry as my box but there is no way when i insert it!!

i insert a void in a generic family with only a void and it works

so i thought that if i change the category of my box from plumbing fixtures to generic ficture the void will be "visible" but not... i see my box but not the void that should cut the ground (in my tests i tried on topography)

have you any idea how to cut the topography, the floor with the box and its void?

Phil

You can't cut a Toposurface with a void. Use a Building Pad.

Another way you could do it, is by exporting to DWG the Toposurface and then  inserting the DWG back into a In-Place Massing session, then close out and apply a Roof by Face to the Topo Mass. You can then cut the Roof by Face with a Void.

You can add a void in the family, set the family to Cut with void when loaded, and use Cut geometry to cut the host element in project with the family (wall, floor, roof, ceiling).

That family, however, will NOT cut a topography. You have to cut the topo manually and place the family in the hole. A vertical cut is easier to get done with a building pad. Anything other than that can get quite complicated and may require different workarounds.
