Visibility of Nested Families based on Host Family Types?

Hello,

I am currently working on a Revit project and I'm trying to achieve a specific visibility control within my families. I have a host family with multiple types, and I have several nested families within it. What I would like to do is to control the visibility of these nested families based on the selected type of the host family.

Is there a way to achieve this in Revit?

Thanks in advance!

You can turn visibility of a nested family on and off by adding a Yes/No Parameter to the main family and connect this Parameter to the Visibility parameter of a Nested family.

If the nested family has other nested families, they will also turn off.  In the host Family for a Type you can chose via the Yes/No Visibility switch whether it is shown or hidden and this can be done for multiple option.

I would also recommend to consider Subcategories to have categorical visibility control within given standard categories. It could be an option that you can manage with Visibility Graphics Templates.  For example, Downspouts can be modeled as Generic Models and the extruded objects could be sub categorized as Downspouts. This in visibility graphics will show as Downspouts under Generic Models and you can turn them on and off as sub category.

Thanks for the help. I was also not aware that the yes/no parameter can be chosen separately based on the selected type of the family.

If all the nested families are at the same place and are of the same category, you can use a Family Type parameter instead of multiple yes/no parameters.
