villa linked to multiple projects and each projects linked villa is editable.

Hi all,

Is it possible to have design options in a linked revit file.

So we have a completed villa, then thats linked into multiple other files (lets say 8 other files), then each file has more adjustments such as, diffetent window size, shifter internal wall.....so on.

If not, is there a way to achieve somethins similar to that?

The aim is so that is the cladding or roofing is changed, then it only needs to be adjusted once, not 8 times.

Thank you

Hi Ayah! I hope you are doing great.

As you said, it's possible to have multiple design options in the same file.

I will show you where you can activate this option.

1st. Go to the ribbon bar, in the upper part of the interface, and search for the manage tab.

2nd. In the manage tab, you will look for "Desing Options Group"

Then you will click the Design Options Button.

It will open the next window.

This is divided into 2 groups.

Option Set, and Option

Option Set, it's generally used to group different options from the same discipline.

For Example Architecture, Interior Design, Etc.

Option it's usually used to make different configurations of the same space.

For example: Option set: Interior Desing/ Option: D1, D2, D3

When you configure your different options you can make the one you like the most primary so you can delete the other ones.

Recommendations: Create a View for each of the Options, check the visibility and graphics options, and set each option for each view.

Then when you have all the views prepared with the different options you can use the host file linked by the view option to see the different design options contained in the link.

Try set the link to display by linked view that dedicated to a design option.

Thanks for that,

I was after something more like an X-ref file. similar to how when you link a CAD file, any changes made on the cad drawing is automatically updated on all RVT files that hosts that link?

Basically we have a template for a cookie cutter style complex, each villa has a different site plan and plumbing and drainage, but when construction happen, there may be an issue that gets picked up which requires all other villas to be update. So rather then going to each individual file to update them, is it possible to have them all be linked so it would only need to be changed once?

For the first question: Yes any change is automatically updated on all RVT Files, however, you will have every different design option, so you will need to check every existing option.

For the second question: It is possible, however, it is way better to treat them as individual designs, at the end of the day they are different projects.
