Viewing above and below view range

I have three simple walls and a door with the 'default' view range:

I also have a beam across which you cannot see in the floorplan:

I'd like to see the beam in the floorplan but I'd also like the door cut to show correctly too...

If I raise the top and cut plane above level 2 I can see the beam but the door doesn't show "correctly cut" as the wall above it is visible.

So what is the correct way to view bot the door cut and the beam?  Can this be done and is it the correct way to represent these details on a floorplan?

Thanks

Several ways, each has its pros and cons:

  • Change the beam to Generic Models category, or nest a shared generic model family in the beam family
  • Turn on Underlay looking up
  • Force the beam being cut by the cut plane by adding a Vertical model line in the family per @barthbradley
  • If it is an odd case, turn on Underlay, use Linework tool on the beam, then turn off Underlay

You can also use a plan region to set a different view depth/cut height for part of the view.
