View templates in dependent views

I would like to have two different layouts of my site plan. One is existing and does not show any of the new construction.  The other is a complete view of the project. Is there a way to keep the existing site plan dependent while turning off the new construction to show only the previous + demo? If I set up a view template I cannot alter in the dependent view to make the changes that I want as options are greyed out. Is the only way to do this to create them as independent views?

Dependent Views share the same Visibility Settings ** as their parent Views, which is why they are Dependent Views. So yes, you will have to make them Independent Views if they will have differing Phase and/or Phase Filter Settings. Is there a particular reason that you'd prefer to keep them as Dependent Views?

Edited: removed the ** above about View Scale. View Scale is shared, too.

Thanks for the quick reply. I wanted to keep them dependent because I'm a dork and sometimes remember something later that I forgot something and it usually makes it easier to have one master plan that I work on.  It's not a huge deal but would have made life a little simpler.  Thanks for the help.
