View reference isn't referencing

Hi all. I'm baffled by an issue I'm having setting up a relatively new project (but not so new that it doesn't have some garbage in it). I imported two view reference families we have used without issue in the past. One is the typical bubble and one is a horizontal text reference. But when I click on either of them, they don't bring up the option to change the reference. They also look a bit different in the browser and in the properties pull-down. I have tried removing / purging / re-importing, no luck. What am I doing wrong? Attached are images of the good one and the bad one with the differences indicated. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. TIA.

Can you upload an example of a project where they aren't working? I have a couple of ideas but it would be easier to test them and let you know what I find.

I can't, the client wouldn't like it, but I can upload the families. Here they are. Let me know if they give you any clues. Thanks.

Did you create a view reference type and assign this family to it?  They work fine here.

No issues on my end. Have a look at the legend in the attached project. I loaded each family in and created a new type of view reference that used the relevant family.

The only thing I can think of is that you're not creating the types correctly. Other than that, if you can recreate the issue in a blank project and upload that, I'll have a look.

This will sound stupid, but I don't know what you mean by "create a new type of view reference". If I place a default view reference and check the type properties, this is what I see. There is no option to assign the family that I can see.

Update: It was my stupidity. I forgot I had purged those families out of the project again. It is working now. Thanks to both of you.

Click View Reference button and you will be shown with a list of existing View Reference types. Pick anyone of them, edit type, duplicate, and assign a family type of the two families you shared.
