View Filter Parameters for Generic Model Family

I would like to create a view filter based on an instance parameter in a generic model family. The family is the GTP family from Autodesk Point Layout, and the parameter is called PointDescription. Is there a way to get the parameter to be available in the Filter Rules drop down menu? I tried adding a project parameter, but that just added a duplicate parameter to my family.

Thanks

Kevin

Hi,

Open the family, and select the parameter and press edit parameter. Is it a shared or Family parameter.

Only shared parameters (in family) will show in the Project Filter listing. See image below

What TYPE???   Text, Length, Angle, etc., etc.

Also, how do you know it's shared?

Text. And it is listed as shared in the family's parameter editor. I made a shared parameter in the project, but that doesn't have any effect.

What do you mean by "I made a shared parameter in the project"? You don't mean you created a Text-Type Shared Parameter named "PointDescription" in your Project's SP Text File?

If you did, I think I know what's going now. Delete the "PointDescription" SP that you created yourself. Ignore warnings.  Now open Family and Export its "PointDescription" to your Project's SP.  Reload into Project. Create Project Parameter from Exported Shared Parameter "PointDescription" . Now try creating a Filter referencing "PointDescription" SP.

I've tested it, Filters ONLY use project parameters, schedules however show project parameters AND shared family parameters, never noticed it.

Also make sure in the Filter expression to only seelct the categories the Project parameters is bound to, else the parameter also won't show.

Follow @barthbradley direction;

Take the identical parameter of the family and add it to the project and bind it to the correct category(s).

Here is the family. I was successful following @barthbradley . I was missing the step where I had to add the project parameter AND then select the shared parameter. Thanks!
